HD Tune Pro Filehippo is a hard disk / SSD utility developed by Efd Software. It can be used to measure the drive’s performance, scan for errors, check the health status by using S.M.A.R.T.(Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology), securely erase all data and much more.
It can also manage your disk space, safely remove files, and benchmark SSDs and HDDs, Check their transfer rate, burst rate and access time and Detect damaged sectors and reduce the noise of your hard drives in your pc.
HD Tune Pro is a powerful utility that can help you benchmark your drives and discover issues that may be affecting their performance. What’s more, in addition to the features offered by HD Tune, the Pro edition can also monitor drives and analyze disk usage.
Features Of HD Tune Pro Filehippo
Benchmark your HDD or SSD to ensure it is not underperforming
The application can run multiple types of tests to assess your device’s performance. HD Tune Pro enables you to measure transfer rate, access time and a burst rate, as well as CPU usage while transferring data.
It is also possible to perform a file benchmark using a file with a customizable length, as well as a random access test that simulates normal usage conditions by transferring files of varying sizes.
Keep a close eye on your drive’s health
HD Tune Pro monitors a range of parameters related to your storage device’s health, such as the temperature and fails count when performing various operations. These checks are performed regularly, and you will be notified if issues are detected.
Additionally, you can run a manual error scan at any time in order to locate damaged blocks or sectors. You can even choose which blocks should be scanned.
Assess disk usage, wipe deleted files and reduce hard drive noise
If you are running low on disk space, you can switch to the Folder Usage tab and run a scan in order to find and clean particularly large directories.
Privacy-minded users can take advantage of this program to overwrite the free space on their drives, thus preventing any deleted files from being recovered.
The Automatic Acoustic Management feature can help you reduce the noise made by hard drives while seeking, which can be an issue for users who have otherwise silent PCs.

How To Use It?
Using HD Tune is very easy.
First, select the hard disk, then choose a function.
After the Start button is pressed HD Tune will perform several tests to measure the performance of the hard disk.
Benchmark
Transfer Rate
The read speed is measured in megabytes per second (MB/sec). The minimum, maximum and average speed is displayed on the right. The blue line on the graph shows the read performance across the disk.
*note*: One megabyte equals to 1048576 bytes (=1024 kilobytes). Some benchmarks define one megabyte as 1000000 bytes which results in higher scores.
Access Time
The average access time is measured and displayed in milliseconds (ms). The measured access times are shown on the graph as the yellow dots.
Burst Rate
The burst rate is the highest speed (in megabytes per second) at which data can be transferred from the drive interface (IDE or SCSI for example) to the operating system.
CPU Usage
The CPU usage shows how much CPU time (in %) the system needs to read data from the hard disk.
Information
The first part of the screen shows detailed information about each partition on the hard disk.
The second part shows which features are supported.
The third part shows the basic information.
- Firmware version
- Serial number
- Capacity
(The capacity between braces shows the capacity as it is marketed by the manufacturer; defining 1 KB as 1000 bytes)
Health
This function uses S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) to get information about the health of the hard disk.
The table shows the following parameters:
- ID: Parameter which is being measured
- Current: Current value
- Worst: The worst value which has been recorded since the hard disk was first used
- Threshold: The value of any of the parameters should never get below the threshold.
- Data: Shows the usable data which belongs to the ID.
- Status: Status of the parameter (OK or failed).
- Error Scan
By pressing the Start button the whole surface of the disk will be scanned for defects.
Defects will show up as red blocks.
Temperature
For good operation, the temperature should stay below 50 °C. The temperature should never exceed 60 °C.
